1. 拨动灯芯使灯火明亮。引申为启发。

2. 拨物使动；挑动。

   《朱子语类》卷九四：“踏着动的机，便挑拨得那静的。” 清 陆长春 《香饮楼宾谈·一庙三怪》：“闻琵琶琅琅作声，若有人挑拨之者。” 续范亭 《警告中国抗战营垒中的奸细分子》：“无孔不入，无地不钻，来挑拨 中国 的内战。”

3. 播弄是非，调唆。

   《水浒传》第二一回：“是谁挑拨你，我娘儿两个下半世过活都靠着押司，外人説的闲是闲非都不要听他，押司自个做主张。” 老舍 《全家福》第三幕：“我妈妈对她那么无情，他总是忍着，没有挑拨过是非。”

4. 逗引，撩拨。

   《白雪遗音·玉蜻蜓·露像》：“明晓 志贞 生母无疑，何故又以戏言挑拨？” 张恨水 《啼笑因缘》第二回：“其实这两条腿，除富于挑拨性而外，不见得怎样美。”
