双子叶植物，豆科。一年生草本。茎蔓生或直立。三出复叶。花黄或淡灰色。荚果无毛，种子椭圆或长椭圆形，一般为赤色。原产于亚洲，中国栽培较广。种子富含淀粉、蛋白质和b族维生素等，可作粮食和副食品，并可供药用。茎、叶可作饲料或绿肥。
