一年生或多年生草本植物。颖果卵形。果仁叫薏米，可入药，有健脾、去湿、利尿等作用。

1. 植物名。一年生或多年生草本植物，茎直立，叶线状披针形，颖果卵形，淡褐色。子粒(薏苡仁)含淀粉。供食用、酿酒，并入药。茎叶可作造纸原料。

   《后汉书·马援传》：“初， 援 在 交阯 ，常饵薏苡实，用能轻身省慾，以胜瘴气。”

2. 指薏苡之谤。

   宋 苏轼 《和王巩并次韵》之五：“巧语屡曾遭薏苡，庾词聊復託芎藭。”
