1. 旧指有一定职衔的员司。

2. 旧时下属对长官的自称。

3. 泛指担任行政或业务工作的人员。

   曹禺 《日出》第二幕：“ 李石清 由左门上。他原来是大丰银行一个小职员。” 冰心 《集外·我的童年》：“这所房子盖在山坡挖出来的一块平地上，是个四合院，住着筹备海军学校的职员们。”
