腐烂的木头。比喻不堪造就的人。《论语·公冶长》：“朽木不可雕也，粪土之墙不可杇（wū，同“圬”）也。”

1. 腐烂的木头。

   《荀子·劝学》：“鍥而舍之，朽木不折；鍥而不舍，金石可鏤。” 汉 桓宽 《盐铁论·殊路》：“今 仲由 冉求 无檀柘之材， 隋 和 之璞，而强文之，譬若彫朽木而礪鈆刀，饰 嫫母 画土人也。” 宋 梅尧臣 《睡意》诗：“且梦 庄周 化蝴蝶，焉顾 仲尼 讥朽木。”《花城》1981年第2期：“地板上堆着几件式样古老的樟木箱笼，上面的描金图案早已斑驳难辨，露出朽木的原色。”
