   晋 葛洪 《抱朴子·交际》：“今先生所交必清澄其行业，所厚必沙汰其心性。” 宋 柳永 《红窗睡》词：“二年三岁同鸳寝，表温柔心性。”《红楼梦》第七一回：“ 周瑞家的 虽不管事，因他素日仗着 王夫人 的陪房，原有些体面，心性乖滑，专惯各处献勤讨好。” 秦兆阳 《选举》：“她是知道儿子的心性的。”

2. 中国 古典哲学范畴，指“心”和“性”。

   战国 时 孟子 有“尽心知性”之说。其后佛教各宗盛谈心性，禅宗认为心即是性，倡明心见性，顿悟成佛。 宋 儒亦喜谈心性，但各家解说亦不一。 程颐 、 朱熹 等以为“性”即“天理”，“心者，人之神明，所以具众理而应万事者也。”故“心”“性”有别。 陆九渊 则主张“心即理也”，认为“心”“性”无别。其说虽不同，而均属唯心主义。 清 初 王夫之 和后来的 戴震 等人对心性作了一些唯物主义的阐说。后人亦以“心性之学”称 宋 明 理学。《黄檗山断际禅师传心法要》：“心性不异，即心即性。”参见“ 理学 ”。
