1. 中国 古代哲学范畴。指万物的天赋和禀受。

   《易·乾》：“乾道变化，各正性命。” 孔颖达 疏：“性者，天生之质，若刚柔迟速之别；命者，人所禀受，若贵贱天寿之属也。” 朱熹 本义：“物所受为性，天所赋为命。” 五代 齐己 《酬元员外见访》诗：“《易》中通性命，贫里过流年。” 宋 明 以来理学家专意研究性命之学，因以指理学。 宋 陈亮 《上孝宗皇帝第一书》：“举一世安于君父之讎，而方低头拱手以谈性命，不知何者谓之性命乎！” 郑观应 《盛世危言·学校》：“所拘者又復高谈性命，衍説仁义，细析毫芒，而至于钱穀财赋之事，茫然罔晓也。”

2. 生命。

3. 本性。
