1. 指极险恶而无出路的境地。

   《孙子·九地》：“去国越境而师者，絶地也。”《三国演义》第二五回：“吾今虽处絶地，视死如归。” 清 薛福成 《庸盦笔记·史料一·李傅相入曾文正公幕府》：“傅相谓 祁门 地形，如在釜底，殆兵家之所谓絶地，不如及早移军。”

2. 极远的地方。

   《汉书·韩安国传》：“且自 三代 之盛，夷狄不与正朔服色……以为远方絶地不牧之民，不足烦中国也。”

3. 旧时堪舆家所谓的禁忌之地，如果用作宅基或墓地将会招致祸殃。

   宋 陆游 《老学庵笔记》卷九：“ 姚麟 勑葬乃絶地，故其家遂衰。”《初刻拍案惊奇》卷三八：“今日有了老生儿，不致絶后，早则不在絶地上安坟了。”

4. 传说中骏马名。

   晋 王嘉 《拾遗记·周穆王》：“王驭八龙之骏，一名絶地，足不践土。”
