〈动〉一种原始的耕种方法，把地上的草木烧成灰做肥料，然后就地挖坑种植。

1. 属于火范畴的事物。

   晋 葛洪 《抱朴子·对俗》：“脂非火种，水非鱼属。”

2. 供引火用的火。

   《三国演义》第五十回：“ 操 令军士往村落中刼掠粮食，寻觅火种。”《水浒传》第四一回：“ 侯健 就讨了火种，递与 薛永 ，将来点着。” 郭沫若 《中国史稿》第一编第一章第一节：“山洞里发现的大量灰烬，不仅说明了他们能初步使用火，也说明他们已能保持火种了。”

3. 喻潜藏的强大力量或强烈感情。

   郭小川 《秋歌》：“不止一次了，节日的礼花点燃起我心中的火种。” 孙犁 《白洋淀纪事·杨国元》：“我想，如果不只从静止的方面看他，而想到他的本质和他身体里包藏的无限火种的力量，再能激发这种力量，他就进步得快了。”

4. 火耕。

   唐 刘长卿 《送州人孙沅却归句章新营所居》诗：“火种山田薄，星居海岛寒。” 宋 王禹偁 《畬田调》：“莫言火种无多利，林树明年似乱麻。”
