简称政协。中国人民爱国统一战线组织。是中国共产党领导的多党合作和政治协商的重要机构。1949年6月在北平召开筹备会，同年9月举行第一届全体会议，代行全国人民代表大会的职权，制定了起临时宪法作用的《中国人民政治协商会议共同纲领》，选举了中央人民政府，宣告中华人民共和国成立。1954年9月召开第一届全国人民代表大会第一次会议，颁布了《中华人民共和国宪法》后，中国人民政治协商会议就不再代行全国人民代表大会的职权，但仍在国家的政治生活、社会生活和对外友好活动中做了许多工作，做出了重要贡献。中国人民政治协商会议设全国委员会和各级地方委员会。
