佛教用语。因果报应的一种说教。佛教认为人行善行恶，来生都有报应，在天、人、恶神、地狱、饿鬼、畜牲等六道中生死相续，像车轮运转一样循环不息。

1. 循环。

   《南齐书·竟陵文宣王子良传》：“前人增估求侠，后人加税请代，如此轮回，终何纪极？” 元 耶律楚材 《转灯》诗：“团团十方匝，轮迴莫能趓。” 鲁迅 《华盖集·忽然想到＜四＞》：“用了这许多好材料，难道竟不过老是演一出轮回把戏而已么？”

2. 佛教语。梵语的意译，原意是流转。佛教认为众生各依善恶业因，在天道、人道、阿修罗道、地狱道、饿鬼道、畜生道等六道中生死交替，有如车轮般旋转不停，故称。也称六道轮回、轮回六道。

   《法华经·方便品》：“以诸欲因缘，坠堕三恶道，轮迴六趣中，备受诸苦毒。” 元 关汉卿 《窦娥冤》第二折：“空悲切，没理会，人生死是轮迴。” 元 刘壎 《隐居通议·鬼神》：“杀生及死祀，轮回万劫殃。” 马南邨 《燕山夜话·古迹要鉴别》：“原来所谓‘舍身’是佛教的用语，意思是舍出生命，避免轮回的苦厄，祈求来生的幸福。”
