汉语拼音：fǎ shī

佛教中对通晓某种 经典并善于讲解以及致力修行传法的僧侣的尊称。通常也用作对佛教僧人或道教道士的礼貌称呼。

1. 佛教语。精通佛经并能讲解佛法的高僧。亦用为对比丘的尊称。

   《正法华经·法师品》：“称咏法师，发心悦豫，其人获福，不可限量。” 南朝 齐 王屮 《头陀寺碑文》：“ 宗法师 行絜珪璧，拥锡来游。” 宋 王安石 《答蒋颖叔书》：“其所以名‘芬陁利华’，取义甚多，非但如今法师所释也。”《新华文摘》1987年第6期：“在 缅甸 有一个很有学问的 华 侨僧人，名叫 万慧法师 ，是文学家 谢无量 的三弟。”

2. 唐 代道士三种称号之一。

   《唐六典·礼部尚书·祠部郎中》：“道士修行有三号：其一曰法师，其二曰威仪师，其三曰律师。”

3. 指降妖驱邪的道士或方士。

   宋 陈鹄 《耆旧续闻》卷七：“其家疑为妖魅所惑，力扣之，乃以实告。郡有 孔法师 ，符法甚灵。”《西游记》第十八回：“我太公与我几两银子，叫我寻访法师，拿那妖怪。”
