1. 《新唐书·孝友传·张琇》：“父死凶手，歷二十年不克报，乃今刷愤，愿归死有司。”此指凶人之手。又称行凶的人为凶手。

   《二十年目睹之怪现状》第四七回：“谁知立了约不多几天，就有了生番杀人的事。地方官便捉拿凶手。”

2. 泛指恶人。

   《洛阳伽蓝记·永宁寺》引 北魏 元颢 《与庄帝书》：“虽迫於兇手，势不自由；或贰生素怀，弃剑猜我。”

3. 行凶的人。

   《天雨花》第五二回：“一面着人四门探访，要捉拿兇手。” 老舍 《四世同堂》六四：“他必须设法破获凶手，以便将功赎罪。”
