弗里德里希·恩 格斯（1820—1895）马克思主义的创始人之一，无产阶级革命导师。生于普鲁士莱茵省巴门市（今德国伍珀 塔尔市）。1842年到英国工业中心曼彻斯特，深入了解工人阶级状况，积极参加工人运动。1844年在巴黎 会见马克思，开始共同为无产阶级解放事业而奋斗。他们共同加入正义者同盟，并且指导该同盟改组为 共产主义者同盟，起草《共产党宣言》，并且一起参加了德国1848年革命。恩格斯总结这次革命经验，写了《德国的革命和反革命》一书，为马克思主义关于武装起义学说奠定了基础。19世纪50—60年代，积极参加了领导第一国际的工作。1876—1878年写了《反杜林论》，全面地阐明了马克思主义的三个组 成部分。1873—1883年完成《自然辩证法》一书。1883年马克思逝世后，担负起领导国际共产主义运动 的重任，整理和出版了马克思的著作《资本论》第二、三卷。1884年写成《家庭、私有制和国家的起源 》，1888年写成《路德维希·费尔巴哈和德国古典哲学的终结》。1889年领导建立了第二国际，同各种 机会主义进行斗争，捍卫和发展了马克思主义，使国际工人运动得到了广泛的发展。1895年8月5日在伦 敦逝世。
