1. 婴儿。

   《庄子·庚桑楚》：“能儿子乎，儿子终日嗥而嗌不嗄。” 成玄英 疏：“同於赤子也。”《吕氏春秋·异宝》：“今以百金与摶黍，以示儿子，儿子必取摶黍矣。” 高诱 注：“儿子，小子。”

2. 子女。

   《汉书·高帝纪上》：“老父曰：‘乡者夫人儿子皆以君，君相贵不可言。’”儿子，指 孝惠帝 、 鲁元公主 。

3. 指所生男孩。

   《史记·张释之冯唐列传》：“ 文 帝 免冠谢曰：‘教儿子不谨。’” 宋 苏轼 《将至广州寄迈迨二子》诗：“北归为儿子，破戒堪一笑。”《水浒传》第四七回：“惟有 祝家庄 最为豪杰，为头家长，唤作 祝朝奉 ，有三个儿子，名为 祝氏 三杰。”

4. 男子对长辈的自称。

   《汉书·匈奴传上》：“单于乃自谓‘我儿子，安敢望 汉 天子！ 汉 天子，我丈人行’。”《七国春秋平话》卷下：“ 鬼谷 ：‘谁敢看旗？’当有 独孤角 言：‘儿子看。’”
