1. 指监门吏。

   《孙子·用间》：“凡军之所欲击，城之所欲攻，人之所欲杀，必先知其守将、左右、謁者、门者、舍人之姓名，令吾间必索知之。” 张预 注：“门者，閽吏也。”《史记·张耳陈馀列传》：“ 张耳 、 陈餘 乃变名姓，俱之 陈 ，为里监门以自食…… 秦 詔书购求两人，两人亦反用门者以令里中。” 司马贞 索隐：“案门者即 餘 耳 也。自以其名而号令里中，诈更别求也。”《周书·郭彦传》：“门者开门待之， 彦 引兵而入，遂有其城。” 清 钱谦益 《太祖实录辨证一》：“《滁阳王庙碑》云：﹝ 明太祖 入 濠城 ﹞为门者所执，将欲加害，王亲驰活之。”

2. 泛指守门人。

   《吕氏春秋·精通》：“ 周 有 申喜 者，亡其母，闻乞人歌於门下而悲之，动於颜色，谓门者内乞人之歌者。”《后汉书·孔融传》：“ 融 欲观其人，故造 膺 门，语门者曰：‘我是 李君 通家子弟。’”
