节肢动物，身体多为黄褐色，口部两侧有一对螯，胸部有四对脚，前腹部较粗，后腹部细长，末端有毒钩，用来御敌或捕食。卵胎生。以蜘蛛、昆虫等为食物。可入药。

1. 亦称“ 蝎饼 ”。饼名。

   北魏 贾思勰 《齐民要术·饼法》：“截饼一名‘蝎子’，皆须以蜜调水溲麪。若无蜜，煮枣取汁。牛羊脂膏亦得；用牛羊乳亦好，令饼美脆。”《释名·释饮食》：“蝎饼。” 毕沅 疏证：“《齐民要术》云截饼一名蝎子，盖即蝎饼也。”

2. 亦称“ 蝎饼 ”。钳蝎。

   《儒林外史》第三五回：“ 庄徵君 到了下处，除下头巾，见里面有一个蝎子。” 曹禺 《原野》第一幕：“我跟瞎婆子是一尺的蝎子碰上十寸的蜈蚣，今天我们谁也不含糊谁。”

3. 钳蝎之子。

   唐 段成式 《酉阳杂俎·虫篇》：“鼠负虫巨者，多化为蝎，蝎子多负於背。 成式 尝见一蝎负十餘子，子色犹白，纔如稻粒。”
