1. 以头抵地，将身体颠倒翻过去的动作。

   宋 王安石 《诉衷情令·又和秀老》词：“莫言 普化 只颠狂，真解作津梁。驀然打个筋斗，直跳过 羲皇 。” 元 杨显之 《酷寒亭》第二折：“蜘蛛网内打筋斗，鹅毛船上邀朋友。”《古今小说·张道陵七试赵昇》：“扑通的一声，六魔齐跳入水，在水中连翻几箇筋斗。”

2. 失去平衡而摔倒。如：栽筋斗。

3. 亦作“ 觔兜 ”。 唐 代散乐的一种。翻跟斗。

   唐 段安节 《乐府杂录·鼓架部》：“寻橦、跳丸、吐火、吞刀、旋槃、觔斗，悉属此部。”

4. 跟头。

   元 高文秀 《襄阳会》第三折：“某正在空地上学打觔斗。” 明 吾丘瑞 《运甓记·牛眠指穴》：“钉钉捉七，以会鬭牌买快，虎跳觔兜。” 清 蒲松龄 《聊斋志异·鸽异》：“飞与簷齐，且鸣且鬭，每一扑，必作觔斗。” 鲁迅 《华盖集·忽然想到（五）》：“但是，当学生们成了大群，袭击他们的敌人时，不是遇见孩子也要推他摔几个觔斗么？”

5. 比喻失败或出丑。常与“栽”字连用。

   洪深 《赵阎王》第一幕：“要是我这觔斗，栽在他的手里，那才真有个够受的。”
