在固定的交易场所，买卖标准化的商品或金融资产远期合同的交易。根据这一远期合同，交易方可以按规定的价格在未来某一时刻买进或卖出一定数量的某种商品或金融资产。包括商品期货和金融期货。主要功能是防范价格变动的风险。也可用来从事投机活动。
