神指天神，祇指地神。泛指一切神明。祇（qí）。

1. 天神与地神。

   《书·汤诰》：“尔万方百姓，罹其凶害，弗忍荼毒，并告无辜于上下神祇。” 孔 传：“并告无罪称寃诉天地。”《史记·宋微子世家》：“今 殷 民乃陋淫神祇之祀。” 裴駰 集解引 马融 曰：“天曰神，地曰祇。” 唐 韩愈 《与孟尚书书》：“天地神祇，昭布森列，非可诬也。”《水浒传》第九八回：“当下儐相赞礼， 全羽 与 琼英 披红掛锦，双双儿交拜神祇，后拜 鄔梨 假岳丈。”

2. 谓司中、司命、风师、雨师。

   《礼记·月令》：“﹝季冬之月﹞乃毕山川之祀，及帝之大臣、天之神祇。” 郑玄 注：“天之神祇，司中、司命、风师、雨师。”

3. 泛指神灵。

   汉 赵晔 《吴越春秋·勾践伐吴外传》：“吾自 禹 之后，承 元常 之德，蒙天灵之祐，神祇之福，从穷 越 之地，籍 楚 之前锋，以摧 吴王 之干戈。” 晋 葛洪 《神仙传·郭璞》：“向见日月星辰之精灵，五岳四海之神祇。”《武王伐纣平话》卷下：“上祭天，下祭地，中祭神祇。” 冯至 《伍子胥》：“他们怀念着故乡的景色、故乡的神祇， 伍尚 要回到那里去…… 子胥 却要走到远方。”
