生铁的一类，供铸造器物用。分为灰口铸铁（碳以石墨形式存在）和白口铸铁（碳以碳化物形式存在）。见〖生铁〗。

1. 把铁矿石冶炼成铁。

   《汉书·五行志上》：“ 成帝 河平 二年正月， 沛郡 铁官铸铁，铁不下，隆隆如雷声，又如鼓音。”《北史·杨津传》：“掘地至泉，广作地道，潜兵涌出，置炉铸铁，持以灌贼。贼遂相告曰：‘不畏利槊坚城，唯畏 杨公 铁星。’” 清 陈维崧 《满江红·舟次丹阳感怀》词：“铸铁竟成千古错，读书翻受群儿耻。”

2. 用生铁重新熔炼而成的铁碳合金。也叫生铁或铣铁。
