1.为隐瞒身份而另起的名字。

2.日文所用的字母，多借用汉字偏旁。草体字母叫平假名，楷体字母叫片假名。

1. 假借名义。

   《后汉书·邳彤传》：“又卜者 王郎 、假名因埶，驱集乌合之众，遂震 燕 赵 之地。”

2. 虚名。

   唐 李涉 《却归巴陵途中走笔寄唐知言》诗：“猥蒙方伯怜飢贫，假名许得陪诸宾。”

3. 化名。指不是原有的或已流行的名字。

   鲁迅 《书信集·致萧军》：“同道中人，却用假名夹杂着真名，印出公开信来骂我。”

4. 佛教语。谓不能反映实际的概念、语言。佛教认为世界万有及其差别，均是主观上的“假名”所安立的。

   隋 慧远 《大乘义章》一：“诸法无名，假与施名，故曰假名。如贫人假称富贵。” 唐 惠能 《坛经·定慧品》：“自识本心，自见本性，即无差别，所以立顿渐之假名。” 唐 独孤及 《佛顶尊胜陀罗尼幢赞序》：“诸法生於假名，非智无以调伏。” 清 龚自珍 《妙法莲花经四十二问》：“佛不坏假名而説真相。” 吕澂 《中国佛学源流略讲》第五讲：“万物从假名看来是不真，执着假名构画出来诸法自性当然是空。”

5. 日本 文字所用的字母叫假名。多借用汉字的偏旁，借用汉字楷书偏旁的叫片假名，草书的叫平假名。
