1. 梵文的音译。原意为“不正色”，佛教僧尼的法衣。佛制，僧人必须避免用青、黄、赤、白、黑五种正色，而用似黑之色，故称。

   南朝 梁 慧皎 《高僧传·竺僧度·答杨苕华书》：“且披袈裟，振锡杖，饮清流，咏波若，虽王公之服，八珍之膳，鏗鏘之声，曄曄之色，不与易也。” 唐 玄奘 《大唐西域记·婆罗痆斯国》：“浣衣池侧大方石上，有 如来 袈裟之迹；其文明彻，焕如彫鏤。” 清 黄遵宪 《石川鸿斋英偕僧来谒张副使余赋此以解嘲》诗：“先生昨者杖策至，两三老衲共联袂，宽衣博袖将毋同，只少袈裟念珠耳。” 艾芜 《我在仰光的时候》：“和尚尼姑托着黑色的钵，披着黄色袈裟，整队地出现在街头巷尾。”
