《战国策·齐策二》记载，楚国有一个人请人喝酒，酒少人多，大家约定：在地上画蛇，谁先画好，谁喝酒。一个人先画成，左手拿过酒准备喝，同时用右手为蛇画脚，并说：“我还能给蛇画脚呢！” 脚还没有画完，另一个人已把蛇画好，说：“蛇本来是没有脚的，你怎么给它添上脚呢？” 于是拿过酒一饮而尽。后用“画蛇添足”比喻做多余的事，反而弄巧成拙。

• 【解释】：画蛇时给蛇添上脚。比喻做了多余的事，非但无益，反而不合适。也比喻虚构事实，无中生有。
