旧称或然率、几率。在自然和 社会现象中，有这样一类事件，它在相同条件下由于偶然因素的影响可能发生也可能不发生，这类事件 叫做随机事件。就随机事件的个别情况看，它是没有规律的，但通过大量实践后，就其整体来看却呈现 出一种严格的非偶然的规律性。实际上对一个随机事件作大量试验时，就会发现随机事件发生的次数与 试验次数的比总在一个常数附近摆动，这个常数叫做该随机事件发生的概率。概率的大小反映了随机事 件发生的可能性的大小。

1. 某种事件在同一条件下可能发生也可能不发生，表示发生的可能性大小的量叫做概率。例如在一般情况下，一个鸡蛋孵出的小鸡是雌性或雄性的概率都是1/2。
