也叫夏草 冬虫、虫草。真菌的一种。夏秋，它的子囊孢子萌发成菌丝体，侵入鳞翅目昆虫幼虫体内，并以虫体组 织为营养，在虫体内发展，最终使虫体变成充满菌丝的僵壳，菌丝体形成菌核。被害昆虫一般在土内潜 伏越冬。第二年夏季，从虫体内的核菌长出有柄的棒形子座，伸出僵虫体外，故名。主要寄主是冬虫夏 草蛾的幼虫。多生于高山草原上。干燥的子座和虫体可入药。

1. 又称夏草冬虫。省称冬草虫、虫草。真菌的一种。冬季寄生在鳞翅目昆虫的幼体中，夏季从死虫体的一端长出菌体，形成像草一样的植物，故称“冬虫夏草”中医入药，有滋补作用。

   《儒林外史》第二三回：“奉过酒，头一碗上的冬虫夏草， 万雪斋 请诸位吃着，説道：‘像这样东西，也是外方来的。’”
