哺乳动物的一科。有许多种。体型大小不一，一般长约1.5米，最大的象海豹体长可达5—6米。四肢呈鳍状。游速快，善潜水。生活在温带和寒带沿海地区，多数在北半球。主食鱼类和贝类。
