古代刑具。刀用 于割刑，锯用于刖刑。

1. 刀和锯。古代刑具。亦代指刑罚。

   《国语·鲁语上》：“中刑用刀锯。” 韦昭 注：“割劓用刀，断截用锯。”《史记·范雎蔡泽列传》：“设刀锯以禁奸邪，信赏罚以致治。” 宋 苏轼 《拟进士对御试策》：“古者刀锯在前，鼎鑊在后，而士犹犯之。” 清 吴兰修 《黄竹子传》：“坐视骨肉狼藉，刀锯之下，有心者当为分痛，况僕乎？”

2. 刀和锯。特指施宫刑之用具。借指施宫刑。

   《旧唐书·文苑传下·刘蕡》：“远刀锯之贱，亲骨鯁之直，辅相得以专其任，庶职得以守其官。” 宋 秦观 《李训论》：“向使 文宗 有知人之明，委任二臣，俾之图画，则刀锯之残岂难制哉！”参见“ 刀锯之餘 ”。

3. 泛指木工工具。

   唐 韩愈 《题木居士》诗之二：“朽蠹不胜刀锯力，匠人虽巧欲何如！”
