1. 谓时世安宁和平。

   《吕氏春秋·大乐》：“天下太平，万物安寧。”《史记·秦始皇本纪》：“黔首脩絜，人乐同则，嘉保太平。” 唐 温庭筠 《长安春晚》诗之二：“四方无事太平年，万象鲜明禁火前。” 老舍 《龙须沟》第一幕：“有一天，沟不臭，水又清，国泰民安享太平。”

2. 泛指平静无事。

   《警世通言·王娇鸾百年长恨》：“店主人见 张 客无事，偶语及此房内曾有妇人縊死，往往作怪，今番却太平了。” 巴金 《家》三九：“带着那么多银元，路上很不方便。幸而最近这一路还太平。”

3. 谓高低、胜负。

   《秦併六国平话》卷中：“ 周霸 不赶，在阵上高叫：‘ 秦 将愿出阵分过太平。’”《七国春秋平话》卷上：“若有良将，愿求出阵，定个太平。”
