中法战争又作清法战争（法文：Guerrefranco-chinoise），是1883年12月至1885年4月（光绪九年十一月至十一年二月），由于法国侵略中国和越南而引起的一次战争。第一阶段战场在越南北部；第二阶段扩大到中国东南沿海。

战争过程中，法海陆两军虽于多数战役占上风，但均无法取得底定全局的战略性大胜：法国远东舰队虽于海战赢得全胜，并一度攻占基隆，却因沪尾（今台北县淡水镇）一役受挫及疫病流行，无法达成拿下台湾岛的战略目的；而清军虽于初期陆海皆遭惨败，导致由恭亲王奕䜣领班的军机处被全面撤换（甲申易枢），但后期台湾及杭州湾防卫成功，且有冯子材统率各部于镇南关之役给法国陆军带来较重伤亡，法军统帅尼格里也身受重伤，战争的失败直接导致法国总理茹费里等内阁集体垮台。

中法越南战争巅峰期间，日本在朝鲜扶持的亲日派（开化党）趁机勾结日军挟持朝鲜国王暗杀诸位朝鲜亲华大臣发动甲申政变，被清军击败。

以此为契机，两国重启和谈，结果订定《中法新约》，清方承认法国对法属印度支那诸殖民地的宗主权，两国重开贸易。受此战的影响，清廷于台湾设省，以刘铭传为巡抚大力推展现代化防务及新政，并积极筹建北洋水师。
