全称查谟和克什米尔。位于南亚次大陆北部山区，是一个战略要地，自古为印度、中国、中亚和欧洲的交通枢纽。面积19万平方千米。居民大部分信奉伊斯兰教，小部分信奉印度教。原和印度、巴基斯坦同属英国殖民地，1947年印、巴分治后，克什米尔归属问题未解决。
