女子子宫内膜周期性地脱落并出血的现象。每28日左右一次，每次持续3—5天。一般在13—15岁开始来月经，第一次称为初经或初潮。45岁左右停止，称为停经或闭经。怀孕和哺乳期通常无月经。

1. 女子生殖细胞发育成熟后周期性子宫出血的生理现象。经期约三到五天，通常四周至一月一次，故名。又名月水、月事、月信。一般女子从十三四岁起行经，到四十五至五十岁经止。亦指行经期流出的经血。
