也称国家银行”。一国银行体系中居于主导地位，负责制定和执行国家的货币信用政策，实行金融管理和监督，控制货币流通与信用活动的金融中心机构。中国的中央银行是中国人民银行。

1. 由国家设置经营的银行，为全国金融市场的中枢统制机关。负责管理国家货币供应，提供信贷，监督银行系统的业务活动、交换支票，执行外汇管制及买卖黄金。目的在于加强货币稳定性，并促进经济的健康发展。如我国的中央银行、英国的英格兰银行、美国联邦储备银行等。
