竞技游泳项目之一。运动员可自由采用任何姿式游进，在转身和到达终点时，可用身体任何部分触池壁。因爬泳速度最快，一般自由泳比赛多采用此式。混合泳和混合接力中的自由泳则须用蝶、仰、蛙等泳式外的任一姿式。男子有100米、200米、400米、1500米、4×100米和4×200米接力等项；女子有100米、200米、400米、800米和4×100米接力等项。
