阿罗汉的简称。小乘佛教圣者（修行成功者）的最高称号。佛教寺院常有十八罗汉和五百罗汉的塑像。

1. 佛教语。梵语Arhat(阿罗汉)的省称。小乘的最高果位，称为“无学果”。谓已断烦恼，超出三界轮回，应受人天供养的尊者。我国寺庙中供奉者，有十六尊、十八尊、五百尊、八百尊之分。

   唐 玄奘 《大唐西域记·缚喝国》：“故诸罗汉，将入涅槃，示现神通。” 唐 司空图 《十会斋文》：“ 维摩 赴会，捧瑞露以同沾；罗汉飞空，曳危峰而亦至。”

2. 指高僧。

   《西游记》第四七回：“哥哥莫嚷，不是邪魔，乃东土大 唐 取经的罗汉。”
