人和羊膜动物肠的一部分。人的盲肠退化，仅指大肠起始段的袋状部分。位于腹腔右下部。成人的盲肠长6—8厘米。与升结肠交接处有回盲瓣，可防止大肠内容物倒流入小肠。其内下部有一孔通阑尾。盲肠很少发炎，所谓盲肠炎，多是阑尾炎的误称。
