摄政王 [shè zhèng wáng]

1. 摄政王（prince regent），代替或代表出国的、年幼的、生病的或神志不清的及不具备执政能力的君主行使国家领导权的人。通常由君主的亲族或戚族担任。一般情况下摄政王只是当摄政的是皇族亲王时的一种称呼。如中国西周时期周公摄政，汉朝时王莽摄政，清世祖时睿亲王多尔衮摄政，宣统中醇亲王载沣摄政。古琉球国王位更替之时中国遣使监国，位同摄政王。英国还制定有专门的摄政法。摄政王是皇族充当皇权势力的一种主要形式。摄政王的问题在于，很容易蜕变为兄终弟及，将皇位留给自己的子孙，而不是还政于上一代皇帝所指定的继承人。
