我国传统节日，在农历八月十五日，这一天有赏月、吃月饼的风俗。

1. 指农历八月十五日。

   唐 白居易 《效陶潜体》诗之七：“中秋三五夜，明月在前轩。” 宋 吴自牧 《梦粱录·中秋》：“八月十五日，中秋节，此日三秋恰半，故谓之中秋。” 元 关汉卿 《望江亭》第四折：“俺两口儿今年做一个中秋八月圆。” 老舍 《四世同堂》三九：“在他的端阳节那组卡片中，五毒饼正和中秋的月饼与年节的年糕一样，是用红字写着的。”

2. 指秋季的第二个月。

   《周礼·天官·司裘》：“中秋献良裘。” 郑玄 注：“中，音仲。” 唐 顾况 《望初月简于吏部》诗：“泬寥中秋夜，坐见如钩月。” 叶圣陶 《饭》：“这时候正是中秋的天气。”
