父母称呼儿女或儿女对父母的自称（多见于早期白话）。

1. 幼儿；儿女。

   《书·康诰》“若保赤子” 孔 传：“爱养人，如保孩儿赤子，不失其欲。”《后汉书·公孙述传》：“孩儿老母，口以万数。”

2. 特指儿子。

   《宣和遗事》前集：“﹝那妃子﹞却抱养 禄山 做孩儿。”《初刻拍案惊奇》卷二一：“话説 大梁 有箇富翁姓 张 ，妻房已丧，没有孩儿，只生一女，招得箇女婿。”

3. 长辈称呼儿孙或儿孙对长辈自称。

   宋 晁说之 《晁氏客语》：“太母宣諭曰：‘ 范侍讲 求去甚力，故勉徇其请。昨日孩儿（谓 哲宗 ）再三留他，可諭与且为孩儿留，未可求出。’”《醒世恒言·蔡瑞虹忍辱报仇》：“ 瑞虹 见父亲立意要去，便道：‘爹爹既然要去，把酒来戒了，孩儿方才放心。’”

4. 对仆人的称呼。

   金 董解元 《西厢记诸宫调》卷三：“是日 张生 正鬱闷，闻言点头微哂，道‘九百孩儿，休把人厮啈，你甚胡来我怎信。’”
