条约名称之一。一般指国家间就某方面问题经协商订立的共同遵守的条款，如停战协定、贸易协定和文化协定等。也有重大政治性条约以协定为名称的。

1. 协商后订立的共同遵守的条款。

   魏巍 《东方》第六部第六章：“任何光荣的协定对他来说都是要得的。” 周而复 《上海的早晨》第四部二六：“双方都在《朝鲜停战协定》上签了字。”

2. 经过协商而订立(共同遵守的条款)。

   郭沫若 《中国史稿》第五编第一章第一节：“﹝外交大臣 巴麦尊 ﹞提出了一系列的侵略要求，包括……开放通商口岸、协定关税、领事裁判权，等等。”如：应该协定一个共同的纲领。
