建筑工地、高层建筑物等载人或载物升降的机械设备。由动力机和用钢丝绳吊着的箱状装置、料车或平台构成，多用电做动力。有的也叫电梯。

1. 载物和乘人的升降设备。以轿箱、料车或平台承载，沿垂直或倾斜导轨升降，大多用电力驱动，广泛用于矿井、高炉、建筑工地、车站、码头、仓库和高层建筑等处，乘人的通称电梯。
