俗称磁性氧化铁”。化学式fe3o4≮色晶体或红黑色粉末。溶于酸，不溶于水。具强磁性。灼烧到500°c磁性消失，冷却后磁性恢复。在空气中灼烧变成氧化铁。由铁或氧化亚铁在空气(氧气)中加热或由氧化铁在400°c时还原制得。用于医药、冶金等工业，可作抛光剂，在玻璃、陶瓷、油漆等工业中作着色剂，有的还可作磁带及电信器材。
