又称举船机”。利用机械装置升降船舶以克服航道上集中水位落差的通航建筑物。由承船厢、支承导向结构、驱动装置、事故装置等组成。船只上行时，从下游引航道驶入承船厢，关闭闸门和下游端厢门后，泄去这两门之间缝隙内的水体，松开承船厢与下闸首的拉紧和密封装置，在驱动装置作用下，承船厢上升并停靠与上闸首对接的位置；松开承船厢与上闸首间的拉紧和密封装置，给闸门之间空隙内灌水；开启上闸首的工作闸门及承船厢上游端的船厢门，船只即驶进上游引航道。下行时则相反。
