汉语拼音：yuán yīn

声带颤动，气流在口腔的通路上不受到阻碍而发出的声音，如普通话语音的a，e，o，i，u，ü等。也叫母音。发元音时鼻腔不通气，要是鼻腔也通气，发的元音就叫鼻化元音。普通话语音中ng尾韵儿化时元音变成鼻化元音。

1. 纯正而完美的声音。常用以指诗歌。

   清 吴伟业 《送杜大于皇兼简曹司农》诗：“一气元音接混茫，想落千峯入飞鸟。” 清 袁枚 《随园诗话》卷四：“夫诗为天地元音，有定而无定，到恰好处，自成音节。” 金一 《心声》：“夫古淡夷愉，鏘喤而闛鞳，此元音之美调，吾久不得闻之矣。”
