二十四节气之一。太阳在黄道上经过180°～195°的一段时间。约153天，为每年9月23日(或24日)至10月8日(或9日)。狭义上指太阳在天球上经过黄经180°与赤道交点(降交点)的时刻，即9月23日(或24日)。这个时刻处于秋季的中点，又称秋分点”。此日太阳光直射赤道，全球昼夜几乎等长。其后太阳光直射位置便向南移，北半球昼短夜长。天文学上规定秋分为北半球秋季开始。黄河以北进行秋收秋种。
