对于被判处管制、拘役、有期徒刑、无期徒刑的犯罪分子，因其在刑罚执行期间认真遵守监规，接受教育改造，并确有悔改或立功表现的，适当减轻其原判刑罚的制度。减刑以后实际执行的刑期，判处管制、拘役、有期徒刑的，不能少于原判刑罚的二分之一；判处无期徒刑的，不能少于十年。

1. 亦作“减刑”。经过法律手续将原判刑罚减轻。

   《清会典·刑部四·尚书侍郎职掌四》：“凡恤刑之典，曰停刑，曰减刑，曰停遣，各定以时日。”《清明》1982年第2期：“ 鲁蓉生 是前一年春天减刑出狱的。”
