达赖喇嘛的简称。藏传佛教格鲁派（黄教）两大活佛转世系统之一（另一为班禅）。意为“德智广深如海无所不纳之上师”。达赖喇嘛转世必经中央政府册封，已成历史定制。今之达赖喇嘛为第十四世。
