1. 北魏 肃宗 时，尚书左丞 卢同 为防窃冒军功，奏准凡立有军功者，由行台发券为证。其券当中一行大书行台、统军位号，立功人姓名，斩三首及被伤成阶以上军功，尽一行。复竖裂此行，分为二支，以便对举合勘。左右各支均载年号日月、破阵处所、某官某勋，并加盖印记为验。此二支，一给立功者，一送京存档。此即所谓分支。见《魏书·卢同传》。

2. 从一个系统、主体、学科或家族分出之部分。如：拓扑学在泛函分析、微分几何、微分方程和其他许多数学分支中都有应用。
