化学式mgso4。白色晶体或粉末。味咸而苦。能形成多种结晶水合物，其中七水合物称泻盐”。除一水合物外，都易溶于水。加热到200°c，失去全部结晶水。可用氧化镁或氢氧化镁、碳酸镁与硫酸反应制得。主要用作肥料，还可作印染媒染剂、造纸和防火织物的填料，医疗上用作泻药。
