4. 我国古代天文学的浑天说认为，天是一整个圆球，地球在其中，有如鸡蛋黄在鸡蛋内部一样。就观察的星象范围而言，分南北二端，正南入地三十六度，谓之“南极”。近南极的星中原地区都看不到。今多以“南极”指地轴的南端，南半球的顶点。
